BROWN GALS RISING is here!!! The poetry of becoming …

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary since Production in New York City, BROWN GALS RISING, by CeCelia Antoinette is available in paperback, ebook, kindle and promotional dvd.  BROWN GALS RISING is a life-time of poetry, developed and produced as a choreopoem, and now published as a book.  BGR is the poetry of investigating and celebrating self and the 5 different aspects of one woman.

Brown Gals Rising is an excellent play.  A choreopoem by CeCelia Antoinette, it leaves no prisoners in its examination of problems that beset the African-American family. And it offers bold solutions, says Yusef Salaam of the New York Amsterdam News.

CeCelia, CeCe as most call her, is a product of Dallas, TX, being raised in Hamilton Park, the first neighborhood built from the ground up for Black families there.  She has a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma, state of the maternal side of her family. And she spent her adult life in New York City performing on Broadway and on regional and international stages. Her career spans TV, film and commercials.

Irma P. Hall contributed the original  Foreward Poem to BROWN GALS RISING. Irma played CeCes grandmother in a Dallas production of Black Girl with CeCes mother, Naomi Bruton (for whom the Main Auditorium of the Black Academy of Arts & Letters is named), playing her mother.  Irma and CeCelia also starred in For Colored Girls at Theatre Three together. Irma P. Hall is the star of Lady Killers, A Lesson Before Dying, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Soul Food.  Click here: brown gal’s rising: Books

The 3 NY Productions of BROWN GALS RISING featured the early work of Nicole Ari Parker (Soul Food, Boogie Nights, Remember The Titans), Curtiss  Cook (Shutter Island, Arbitrage, The Interpreter), Renee JoshuaPorter (Milanis Mom), Renee Flemings (Law & Order: SVU), Geany Masai (Sopranos, Law & Order: SVU) and others whose pictures are included in the book.

Phyllis Hyman, (Gold record Recording Artist, Tony nominated-Sophisticated Ladies)with her deep-voiced and life-affirming energy and emotional intensity, was a guest in the audience for the final show at Under One Roof and graced us during curtain call by singing We Can Change The World with the BROWN GALS RISING cast.  That is the Bonus Video available with Book purchase. Click here: cecelia antoinette: Books
